Karen Davies



Karen Davies lives and works in London and Newcastle upon Tyne. She has recently completed postgraduate study at Chelsea College of Art and Design (2013) and graduated from Newcastle University BA Fine Art in 1998.
She exhibits nationally and internationally, with exhibitions including We Love New York? Broadway Gallery, New York USA (2010), Northern Print Biennale Newcastle University, Newcastle UK (2009): Enchanted Moment BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead UK (2008); and Interim Show Chelsea College of Art London UK (2012).  She is recipient of the Cecil Lewis Sculpture Scholarship (2013), and has received an Oppenheim John Downes Award (2012).  In 2010 she received an Arts Council England Individual Grants for Arts Award for research and development of her practice, and in the same year was artist in residence at Isis Arts, Newcastle UK. Future exhibitions include Final Show at Chelsea College of Art and Design. 

Since 2003 she has worked on a freelance basis to deliver workshops at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead with schools, families and community groups, as well as holding permanent posts such as University and CPD Programmer (2007-2011) and Education Programmer (Formal Ed) (2004 – 2007).  She continues to work in arts education on a freelance basis for BALTIC and contributes to the MA Fine Art and Education teaching at Northumbria University.

XAMPLES 2007-2012
Xamples 2007-2012 is an exhibition showcasing the work of the 11 international artists who have received the Cecil Lewis Sculpture Scholarship for MA Fine Art at the University of the Arts London. This will be the first time the scholars show their work together in one show and is a unique opportunity to see and buy work from some of the University’s exciting emerging talent.

How to get to Chelsea
By Tube: Chelsea College is a 5 minute walk from Pimlico tube station and 10 minutes from Vauxhall tube.


By Bus: 2, C10, 36, 87, 88, 185, 436 all stop nearby.


By Train: The nearest train stations are Vauxhall and Victoria.


Parking: There is no parking available on the Millbank site however there is limited car parking in streets alongside the College on Atterbury St and John Islip St: metered Monday - Friday 8.30 - 18.30 (Pay and Display, 2 hours max), free 18.30 onwards, weekends and Bank Holidays. Please note that Chelsea College is situated within London's Congestion Charge Zone.


Shop: There is a shop on site which sells a wide range of art and design materials. The shop is open during term time Monday - Friday from 10.00 - 17.15.


Café: There is a café, located opposite Chelsea Space, it sells soft and hot drinks as well as snacks. The café is open Monday - Friday from 8.30 - 15.45.

Ula Dajerling

Born 1980 in Poznan, Poland.
My work is both process and concept led, exploring sets of materials and utilizing their qualities in order to generate the work. My practice aims to re-examine approaches to the ‘formless’ through a series of investigations that foreground natural forces and also non visual senses such as smell, sound and touch. Duration and time are also factors. Utilising a visual language that bridges nature and culture, my aim is to present art that needs little explanation, and is able to communicate directly to the viewer.
